5 Products I Regret Buying

Products I Regret Buying

Generally on my blog, I try to keep it positive and share products that I love. However, as with anybody, not all the products I try work out! It doesn’t always mean they are bad products, sometimes it is just that they didn’t work out for me. I was looking through my stash of beauty products the other day, and came across a few different items that I personally was quite disappointed with – so I thought I would try something new and share those products with you.

The Ordinary Rose Hip Seed Oil

The Ordinary 100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

The Ordinary is SUCH a hyped brand when it comes to skincare, but I’ve never tried any of their skincare before. I picked up this little guy because I use a rose hip cleanser by Indie Lee which I love, so I thought more rose hip could never be a bad idea! Unfortunately I was wrong! I think for someone with dry skin this product would probably be perfect, however since I am leaning more towards the oily side it was just too rich for my skin. I was applying this pretty sparingly before going to bed and I would wake up in the morning feeling like an oil slick! I will definitely try other products from The Ordinary, but I will do a bit more research before doing so, that way I can pick out a product that will be more likely to work for my skin type. So to all my dry skinned ladies you might want to give this a try, but if you are oily like me then steer clear!

Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist

Pixi Makeup Fixing Mist

This product was a big old disappointment for me! I loved the sound of it as the green tea and rose water formula sounded like something that would be really refreshing for my skin. Unfortunately the packaging on my one was so unusable that I can’t even test out the product to see if I like it! The spray nozzle on my bottle I presume is defective as the product shoots out in one big stream, not in a fine mist like you would want for a setting spray, reminiscent of the little water pistols you’d get as a kid. In hindsight, I probably should have contacted the company I bought it from (I think it may have been Cult Beauty, but I can’t quite remember) and hopefully they would have replaced it for me. Alas I did not do that, and I’m now stuck with a full bottle of setting spray that I can’t spray on my face! Once I finish up another bottle of setting spray I might try and decant some of this product into a new bottle, just so I can try it.. but honestly I paid upwards of £15 for the product so ideally I would have liked the packaging to work in the first place! Rant over!

Lush Snow Fairy Body Conditioner

Lush Snow Fairy Body Conditioner

I loved the idea of an in-shower body conditioner, it sounded much faster and more efficient than your standard body lotion, which is a step I always neglect to take. Let me start by saying the smell of this stuff in intense! I am a sweet smell lover, but even for me this was a bit overpoweringly sweet – I think a mixture of candy floss and cherries might be a little bit of over kill! If the product was amazing I would have dealt with the smell, sadly however the product was not amazing. I applied all over my body in the shower and rinsed it all off as instructed, but the product left me with a sticky, film like consistency on my skin even though I had rinsed it all off. Once the film like texture had gone away I didn’t feel as though my skin felt overly moisturised either. The feeling was just so unpleasant I only bothered using this product a couple of times, and it’s sat neglected in my bathroom since.

Iconic London Cream Contour Palette

Iconic London Cream Contour Palette

I think this may be the most controversial item here on my regrets list, as I know a lot of people love this. For me personally though, I just don’t find that the colours work that well for my skintone. I’ve never been a huge fan of really extreme cream contour and highlighting on myself, and I think this is what this palette is geared towards. Personally I think the more extreme contour looks look great on camera but in real life it can look a bit too much. My skin is fairly pale, and I think it is neutral in tone leaning towards the cooler side (I always struggle with figuring out undertones!). This palette however I find to be quite warm, so doesn’t work that well on me as a contour and I end up feeling like I’ve been tango’d! The formula of the creams themselves aren’t bad, they are super pigmented and easy to blend.. a little bit of product goes a hell of a long way! So I think if Iconic London released a similar palette with slightly lighter, cooler shades in it I would give it a try, but as it is I don’t reach for this product very often at all.

Barry M All Night Long Foundation

Barry M All Night Long Foundation Stick

I bought this foundation a few months ago when I was filming my Barry M brand testing video. I didn’t love it at the time and it definitely hasn’t grown on me either! It doesn’t help that I bought a shade that was too light for me, but regardless of that I really don’t like the formula. I find it SO important that a stick foundation is creamy and transfers to your face well, this one however is very stiff and difficult to blend. It feels quite thick on the skin, which I could deal with if it gave good coverage – sadly I think this even being advertised as medium coverage is a bit of a stretch. I do suffer with a fair bit of redness on my face, but usually a colour corrector and foundation will cover it without extra concealer on top, with this foundation though I found myself going back in with quite a lot of concealer to get to my desired coverage. I also found it to be cakey, and clung onto any tiny little dry patch (a very rare problem for me with foundations as I am quite oily). I hate to be a negative Nancy, but this product just didn’t do it for me, and I definitely recommend you all give this one a miss! Sorry Barry! 🙁

So those are my 5 most recent products I regret buying. As I have mentioned, I don’t necessarily think all of these products are bad, some of them just didn’t work for me. Although there are definitely two in this mix that I do think are bad (no prizes if you can guess which ones). I hope some of you have enjoyed this kind of post, I always feel a bit nervous putting out negative product reviews but I have to be honest with you guys!

What products in your collection do you regret buying?

  1. Hi Vicky!

This is a great post and it’s really helpful to read about why these products didn’t work for you.

The Lush Snow Fairy in-shower body conditioner is certainly one product regret I can relate to! I feel exactly the same way about Ro’s Argan! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve attempted to use it up but I just can’t bring myself to be bothered with it, so it just sits there, all unloved, taking up space in my bathroom! Haha

    1. Thanks my love!

I’ve never tried that one personally, but I’m definitely in no rush to after my Snow Fairy experience! Fingers crossed neither of us come across anymore product regrets anytime soon!

      Thanks for reading 😘 xo

  2. I haven’t tried any of these items but I totally agree that sometimes things just don’t work out. It sucks! I think it is helpful to know which items don’t work out and why so we can all be smarter consumers! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

    1. Yes definitely! Hopefully this post will help people work out whether these products will be a miss for them too. Thanks for reading lovely!

  3. I had the Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist and it also had a defective nozzle. It worked for a few months and then all of a sudden, it started spraying out in a single stream. I posted about it on IG and another girl said this happened to her too.
