Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions Palette1

Eye shadow has to be one of my favourite things when it comes to makeup, I always find myself drawn to them and just keep buying more and more! Most recently I treated myself to the Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions palette, which is one of Huda’s new additions to her ‘obsessions’ range. As the name (and photo) would suggest this little palette is all about green! I don’t have a whole lot of greens in my collection, so I was excited to give this a try.

Huda Beauty Emerald Obsessions Palette Swatches

This palette consists of nine shades – three mattes and six shimmers. Obviously the majority of colours are different hues of green, but there’s also the addition of the brown and gold to the palette which compliments the colour scheme nicely. The colours don’t have names, I imagine this is due to the compact packaging. On the whole the palette swatched pretty well, with the exception of the green shimmer on the far left of the photo. The mattes were a tad patchy, but that is often the case with mattes, and realistically it doesn’t really matter how they swatch.. it matters how they perform on the eye!

I quite enjoy the packaging, although the palette was a lot smaller than I was expecting! The fact the palette is so compact means it will be very easy to travel with and won’t take up too much space in my drawers, but the mirror is a decent size for such a small palette. It’s made of cardboard so isn’t the most luxurious feeling palette in the world, but it still feels sturdy and cardboard is better for the environment than plastic so that’s always a positive!

I tried to use as many of the colours as I could when testing this palette out, and I managed to use all but one of them. The mattes I quite liked, they weren’t the most pigmented eyeshadows I have ever used but they built up quite nicely. I definitely wanted a darker matte shade to add a little more definition. but that is just me being picky as I can dip into other palettes for that.

It appears that the shimmers are all the same formula, apart from the lighter green on the top left hand corner of the palette. I found they all worked best using my fingers, with a brush (especially a dry brush) they just didn’t pack as much of a punch. The lighter green shimmer had a formula that reminded me more of Huda’s textured eyeshadows from her Rose Gold palette (I only have the original not the newer one). I’ve always had a bit of a love-hate relationship with these shadows – when I manage to get them to work they are gorgeous, but I don’t find them very easy to work with at all. I found this shade in particular to be quite flaky and had A LOT of fall out – I was aiming for just a little bit of this colour in the middle of my lid, but as you can probably see from the photo the glitter particles got all over the place. I may give this shade a try using a glitter base, or a mixing medium to see if it works any better that way.

Overall, I’m not completely overwhelmed by this palette. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not terrible, but I feel like I have so many other palettes that perform so much better! I love the colour scheme, I’m quite partial to a green and it was definitely a gap in my collection so I don’t regret buying it. However if you don’t really need any extra greens in your stash then I would probably give this one a miss.

Have you picked up any of the Obsessions palettes? Let me know your thoughts!
