I think it’s always good to have goals, otherwise you just end up meandering aimlessly through your life with no real purpose. When I say that I don’t mean that everyone should have a ridiculously over ambitious plan of their life, I just mean it’s good to have something to aim for, big or small.
I’ve seen a lot of people posting 30 before 30 videos on YouTube, and it’s got me thinking about my goals in my own life. I’ve got some goals and ambitions, but it’s very easy to get sucked into everyday life and before you know it another year has gone by and you’re no closer to where you want to be. I figured that writing your goals down (or posting them on in internet in my case) would be a good way of keeping track of where you’re going and giving yourself some direction. So here are my 30 things I want to achieve in the next 6 years before I am 30.
1. Get married
I’ve always been a bit of a romantic, and have always loved being in a relationship. So from a young age one of my main goals has always been to find that special person to spend my life with.
Luckily for me, I have already found that person and we’re getting married in April this year (excited much!). So even if I get to 30 and have failed everything else on this list, at least I can say this one has been ticked off!
2. Have children
I guess this goal is quite a common one to follow on from the marriage goal. I’m definitely in no rush to start having kids as soon as Craig and I are married, but I think it could be on the cards in the next few years and I would definitely like to have had at least one child before I turn 30.
3. Travel as much as possible
Whilst I don’t think I’m someone who could up and leave my life to travel around the world for years on end, I do love to visit as many new places as I can. I try to go somewhere new at least once a year (and more if my bank balance will allow me). Whether it’s somewhere on the other side of the world, or just somewhere I haven’t been before in England, I want to experience as much of this world as possible whilst I’m still in a position that I can.
I’m going to Berlin for my hen do in a few days, and fingers crossed we’re going to visit Thailand and Australia for our honeymoon later this year. So I’m chipping away at this goal bit by bit.
4. Improve my mental health
This is much more of a personal goal. I have been struggling with my mental health for the last few years, but it was only recently that I’ve started to seek help for it. I have been trying to do things to help myself, like practicing self care and trying to think more positively. But I think I have got to the point now where to get better I need to seek proper help, I am on the waiting list for counselling but the good old NHS takes it’s jolly old time (I’ve been waiting 7 months so far!). Recovering from a mental health problem is a long and bumpy road, but I am hoping with a bit of help that I can start to overcome my issues in the next few years.
5. Have a healthier lifestyle
This is something that I think will hopefully go hand in hand with improving my mental health. I am a notoriously lazy person, I do not understand people who say they enjoy exercise and I have quite the soft spot cake, chocolate, pizza.. the list goes on, which does not make for the healthiest lifestyle. I’ve also got into the very bad habit of comfort eating, so hopefully as my mental health improves my relationship with food will also. I by no means expect myself to become a complete health freak, but I would like to find a happy medium where I can exercise some self control over what I eat and get in the habit of exercising more regularly.
6. Start my own business
I’ve always hated working for other people, I am the kind of person who really resents being told what to do and I don’t like the feeling of working my butt off to line the pockets of a bunch of share holders who I’ve never met. I’m not 100% sure what my business is going to be yet, but I know that eventually I want to work for myself. I’m leaning towards trying to make money online, but I’m keeping my options open for now.
7. Move to a bigger house
Craig and I live together in a small three bed house, it’s a lovely little home but we both want to move somewhere a bit larger eventually. Our current house would definitely be fine for a young family, but I think if we had kids and they got a bit older it would start to get a bit cramped – especially if I end up working from home some day! So this isn’t an essential thing to happen before I’m 30, but it would be nice to get into our forever home sooner rather than later.
8. Visit my Aunty in New York
This is something I have been meaning to do for years, but I haven’t quite got around to it yet! My Aunty has lived in New York for quite a long time now, and I did visit her out there once as a teenager but I have always wanted to go and experience New York as an adult – from what I remember it is such an amazing city! I’m super lucky since I can visit and stay with my Aunty, so I can do a trip to New York much cheaper than the average person so I definitely need to take advantage of that fact!
9. Disney Land/World
This is another thing I haven’t done since I was a child, and being a lover of Disney I feel as though it is something I should do again! Ideally it would be Disney World in Florida, but I would settle for Disney Land Paris too!
10. Learn calligraphy
I’ve always admired people with nice handwriting, and I can watch videos of people doing calligraphy for hours – it’s just so satisfying! Since I started my bullet journal at the beginning of the year my desire to be able to do calligraphy has tripled. I try making my hand writing look pretty, but as hard as I try it is never going to be as nice as proper calligraphy!
11. Buy a designer handbag
This goal is an incredibly materialistic one, but what can I say, I just like having nice things! If I ever get to a point where I start making a decent amount of money, I think as a treat to myself I would probably get a designer handbag. I’m not the kind of person who wants to bankrupt myself in order to pay so much for a name brand, but hopefully as I get older and more experienced my financial situation will improve (although my kids goal could cause a bit of a financial hiccup!). I’ve spent a fair amount of time crushing over the Gucci Marmont bags, so if I could ever get myself to a point in life that I could afford to own one it would be incredible!
12. Get really good at baking
I love baking, I find it really relaxing – plus let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a bit of cake?! I have gone through phases of doing lots of baking, but haven’t done it as much recently, I have got a wedding dress to fit in to after all! Once the wedding is out of the way though, I would love to get back into the occasional baking session. I particularly want to learn more about cake decorating, I’m always mesmerised by what some people manage to make out of cake!
13. Grow my blog and YouTube channel
Since starting out in the world of social media last year it has become a huge part of my life, and I love it! I really enjoy the creativity that surrounds it, and getting to speak to like minded people is so rewarding. Eventually I’d love to build up a lovely community on my blog and YouTube channel.
14. Get better at photography
Taking photos is quite an essential skill in the blogging world. I would like to think I can take a half decent photo, but by no means I am that brilliant at it and I do tend to use a lot of guess work! I’d love to find the time to learn a bit more about how to take better photos, and definitely how to use my camera better. I have a Canon DSLR camera, and I am the perfect embodiment of the phrase ‘all the gear but no idea’ with that camera. Photography is a lot more technical than it seems!
15. Empty my ironing basket!
As stupid as it may seem, this is probably the least likely goal that I will achieve in the next 6 years! I always have good intentions of doing some ironing, but I find it so boring I always find an excuse not to do it! This attitude has resulted in a permanently overflowing ironing basket. It is annoying, as there are probably clothes somewhere in there that I have forgotten all about! I would like one day to see it empty, it would be rather satisfying.. although I’m not that confident I’ll ever get round to this one!
16. Have a mega honeymoon
I touched on this slightly in my travelling goal, but I thought I could have some specific travel goals also. Craig and I are hoping to take a later in the year to visit Thailand and Australia for our honeymoon. Australia is somewhere we have both always wanted to visit, and I think Thailand looks really beautiful. We’ve both agreed we’re going to try and save up as much as possible to have a once in a lifetime amazing trip! If we do manage to save up the money to do it, I’ll be sure to be doing lots of posts on here about it!
17. Get another pet
At the moment I have two cats, Doris and Senna, who I love with all my heart. They are like my children, I am definitely a crazy cat lady! When I get a bit older though I would definitely like some more animals. Craig really wants a dog, whereas I would be happy with thousands of cats! Perhaps more pets will come along after we have had children, I loved growing up with a pet as a kid and it’s an experience I’d love my kids to have too.
18. Get a tattoo
I’ve thought about getting a tattoo for a long time, but I’ve always been of the opinion that I need to settle on an idea for a long period of time before taking the jump to get one. I know this is not the case for everyone, but for me personally I really want to be sure it is something I won’t get bored of. The idea I’ve been considering lately is some rhododendrons and a white butterfly, with the words ‘bloom and grow forever’, which are all things that remind me of my Grandma. If I’m still set on that idea later this year I might start saving up to get it done!
19. Visit Croatia
I have wanted to visit Croatia for years, but I’ve never quite got around to it. I think it looks like such a beautiful place, especially all of the lakes. Also, I’m a bit of a Game of Thrones addict (Craig even more so than me) so we would both love to go and see where it was filmed!
20. Stay in a swim up hotel room
This is another of my self indulgent wishes.. I can’t think of many things more luxurious and relaxing than being able to get straight out of bed and into your own little pool. Hotel rooms like this always tend to be a bit out of my budget, but perhaps if I do some saving I can splurge on a hotel room like this one day!
21. Decorate my makeup/filming room
Since really getting into YouTube, and since my makeup collection has grown considerably in the last year I’ve starting using one of our spare rooms to film and keep all my makeup in. It’s a bit unorganised and cluttered right now, but I would love to get it all organised and make it much more aesthetically pleasing. I’ve started doing bits to it, but I would really like to get it completely sorted as soon as I can!
22. Eat in a Michelin star restaurant
Craig and I love eating out, and we both appreciate a nice meal. Neither of us have ever been to a Michelin star restaurant, but it is something we would like to try sometime. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a Maccy Ds as much as the next person, but it’s nice to be wined and dined on occasions too.
23. Come out of my shell a bit more
I’m am a pretty shy, quiet person, well at least I am until you get to know me! I would love to become a bit more confident around other people that I don’t know that well, and become a bit more sociable. I can be a bit of a loner and do enjoy my own company, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I do think getting out and forcing myself to meet new people a bit more often would do me some good though.
24. Start drinking enough water
This is a bit of a boring one, but not drinking enough water is one of my worst habits, I have probably spent most of my life quite dehydrated! I have tried in the past to force myself to start drinking more, it usually goes well for a day or two but then I slip back into old ways. So I think one of my next habits I am going to work on is drinking more water, fingers crossed I’ll break the bad habit and form a good one eventually!
25. Visit more places in the UK
I’m sure a lot of us are guilty of this, but with budget airlines and sites like air bnb, sometimes it can be cheaper to go somewhere in Europe on a trip than stay in the UK. As much as I want to explore as many foreign countries as I can, there are also so many lovely places and things to see right back home in Britain. I definitely want to start taking more time to explore the country I live in, and find out all the best bits it has to offer!
26. Be more comfortable doing things on my own
Don’t get me wrong – I can be a bit of a loner and enjoy my own company, but all too often my time alone is spent on my sofa. Usually with my phone glued in my hand, scrolling my life away. As much as we all need our down time, sometimes I am just doing this because I haven’t got any company that day and I’m not used to doing leisure activities alone. But recently I have been asking myself, why the hell can’t I go and do something fun on my own? If I want to go and try that new restaurant, or spend a day at that museum I’ve been wanting to go to, I should just get off my butt and go and do it! I haven’t taken the plunge and done this yet, but I think it is definitely something I would like to get in the habit of.
27. Learn to love my body
I’m sure I am not alone in saying this, but I have struggled somewhat with my body image since I was a teenager. I have been trying to change my mental attitude, especially over the last year and I have made some progress, but I still have a way to go. I think there are a lot of pressures on young girls and women (as I’m sure there are pressures for guys too) and it is all too easy to compare yourself to all the perfect, airbrushed images that are shoved in our faces on a daily basis, that in all honesty are not even real themselves. I have started working on this by unfollowing anyone on social media who I tended to compare myself to, and made me feel insecure. I’ve also been more experimental with my fashion, and picking clothes that I love and feel confident in, not that I feel will make me look good for other people!
28. Make the most of living near London
I live in Essex, and whilst I am a little way out of London, it is very easy to drive into London or take a short trip on the train. I LOVE London, I think it is an amazing, vibrant city, and I definitely need to take advantage of being so close to it more. My sister also currently lives in London, so I can always stay at hers if I want to go on an overnight trip. The fact that I have all this available to me, and I don’t spend more time there does seem a bit ridiculous! Over the next few years I definitely want to get more London trips in, and explore as much of the city as I can.
29. Do something good for charity
I’ve always liked the idea of doing some charity work, there are so many good causes out there. I did try to volunteer to become a befriender with Age UK a few months ago, but there was nothing available in my area which was a shame! At some point though, I would love to give something back. Whether it be actual volunteering, or maybe just making some kind of donation, it all depends on what time and money I have available – but I would love to do something good in the next few years.
30. See The Lion King musical
I have been wanting to see this for literally years, but I have never got around to seeing it. This is a goal I will be able to accomplish soon though, as my sister bought me tickets for Christmas! I am so excited, you have no idea! The Lion King is my all time favourite film, and the fact that I still haven’t seen the musical is mind blowing, but that will all be changing soon!
So those are my 30 goals that I want to accomplish before I turn 30. Well done if you got this far, this was one hell of a post! I’m not going to lie, the likely hood of me accomplishing every single one is quite slim, but this has definitely given me some food for thought and a bit of direction as to some of the things I want to do in the next few years. What are the goals you would like to accomplish? Let me know in the comments.
