During the summer, I love wearing a bold, bright lip. Recently I decided to go through my stash and compare all the ones I own, I thought since I was doing that I would share them all with you! This process has definitely shown me that I gravitate towards a certain type of shade, and hopefully this is going to help me not to buy lots of the same shades in the future!
Bourjois Rouge Edition in Pamplemousse
This is one of my more muted brights (some may not even consider it as a bright lipstick) but it is super easy to wear. The colour is quite a muted pink toned coral. It has a nice, creamy comfortable formula, but it isn’t the most opaque lipstick I have ever used. I don’t reach for this that often, but I am definitely going to try and get more wear out of it this summer.
Bourjois Rouge Velvet in Brique-a-Brac
I’m not quite sure how to describe this colour! It’s sort of a terracotta red with a pink undertone, it’s definitely pulling more pink in these photos than it is in real life. This is one of my more recent additions to my collection, and I really love it. It’s super creamy, really pigmented and the wear time for this kind of formula is really good.
Elf in Flirty Flamingo
I love this bright pink shade from Elf, it’s one of my go to shades when I fancy a bright colour for everyday wear. It’s such good quality for the price I paid for it – pigmented and comfortable. I’m not sure this particular shade is available anymore which is a shame, as it really is lovely.
Freedom Pro Melts Lipgloss in Steal The Show
This one is a super pigmented gloss, which I am obsessed with! The colour is SO bright, I would say it’s probably bordering on a neon. This is another product I am not sure is available anymore, but if you can get your hands on it I would definitely recommend it (especially as it was so cheap!). The pigmentation is amazing, it isn’t too sticky and wears really well.
Gerard Cosmetics Hydra Matte Liquid Lipstick in West Coast
This colour is one of the more ‘out there’ colours I own, and I have to admit I do find it quite difficult to wear! It is a light, bright, almost neon, peachy coral. It’s a liquid lipstick formula, and not the most comfortable I have ever worn. It’s a little drying and I do find over time it becomes a bit flaky. I really want to find a way to wear this more often though, it’s definitely a little bit out of my comfort zone and I need to break free from that sometimes! I think this one would look much better if I had a tan.
Maybelline Vivid Matte Liquid in Orange Shot
I bought this product expecting a matte lipstick, and it is definitely not that.. but I still quite like it! It is a very bright orange toned red, with a glossy finish (even if it does say matte on the packaging!). I LOVE the colour, it’s so bright and summery. The formula however isn’t the best, it is a bit thick and tends to slide around a little.. but for short spaces of time it is fine. I wouldn’t wear it for a full day, but for a short trip out or quick drinks then it is fine.
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Manila
This shade is a bright, pink toned, coral and is another shade I don’t reach for that often. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just have other similar colours so this one often gets forgotten! I find the formula of the Soft Matte Lips Creams can be a little patchy at times, this one is one of the better ones though and you can get a pretty even finish.
Soap and Glory Sexy Mother Pucker in Pommie Girl
This is another lipstick that I love, but really don’t reach for often enough. This one is a deep, more berry toned pink which is great for summer, but also for transitioning into autumn. The formula is creamy, comfortable and REALLY pigmented, you get such a smooth colour pay off with this lipstick. This is the only lipstick I own from this range but I definitely need to try some more. Plus the packaging is gorgeous!
Tarte Colour Splash Hydrating Lipstick in Popsicle
This one is a bright, deep fuschia and it really packs a punch! It’s one of the more expensive lipsticks I own, and you can definitely tell it by the formula. It is smooth, creamy and pigmented. Like with most really creamy lipsticks, it can slide around a little if you are not careful – which is quite noticeable with such a bold colour! I once wore this whilst eating a burger, which was a very bad idea! The colour is so worth it for me though, it’s so bold and beautiful!
The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid in Paris Peony
This colour is a bright, rosy pink – it looks a bit more muted in this photo than it actually is. The formula of these liquid lips from The Body Shop aren’t my absolute favourite, but the colours are gorgeous. They are creamy, but don’t completely dry down or set, but still feel quite drying after they’ve been worn for a while. I have a few shades from this range, but don’t reach for them that often.
The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquid in Sydney Amaryllis
From the same range as the lipstick above, but this one is more of a red toned pink. Being from the same range the formula is very similar. I rarely reach for this one, but I really should because I think the colour might be one of my favourites.
So those are what I would consider my most summery lipsticks. It appears I am very drawn to a pink or a pinky coral.. so in future when purchasing lip colours I’ll try and steer towards some different colours. I definitely need some more summery reds, I own quite a few reds but I feel a lot of them are more wintery (not that it means I can’t wear them during the summer, because I do).
What are your favourite summer lip colours?
